1,049,398
1,049,398 is a number I've seen all over downtown Denver today- on t-shirts, sidewalk etchings, and posters.
1,049,398 million is the number of young people between the ages of 17 and 29 who have served in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
1,049,398 of our brothers and sisters, our partners, and our friends. It is young people who are fighting these wars.
1,049,398 is why we are running Power Vote this Fall.
We deserve a future defined by energy independence, greater economic opportunity, international cooperation, and peace.
By igniting a clean and just energy revolution we can do this. We can avoid future conflict, we can create greater economic opportunities at home, and we can ensure that when our young (and old!) veterans return they come home to good, green jobs and healthy communities.
Everyday at the Democratic Convention youth voting groups (like Energy Action Coalition, Rock the Vote, and a slew of others) have plastered the city with a different important number in a creative viral campaign.
On Monday it was 81.1. 81.1 is another powerful number. It is the percentage of registered young voters who voted in 2004. It shows what we know. That young people vote for issues they care passionately about and for candidates that are accountable to those values.
1,000,000. It's not a number we'll be seeing on the streets of Denver but it is a number of Power Vote pledges that will EXCEED. It is the number that will mark the beginning of the youth driven clean and just energy revolution!
